A nemesis and a puppet
My children come up with the strangest things. As frustrating as they can be (and Wise Guy is about to push me to the edge with his CONSTANT JUMPING on people), they can also be extremely funny. I wonder where they get this stuff sometimes, but I guess I really shouldn’t look any farther than the mirror. Some recent gems…..
Wise Guy: “Mom. The world is my nemesis”. (Yeah, The more he talks like this, the more I wonder.)
Sweetie: “Pretend you are an orange walrus.”
Wise Guy: Excitedly. ” Mom, an astronaut!” (about a man wearing a motorcycle helmet.)
Sweetie: “In fact, the world is a small place.”
Wise Guy: “I’m batman.” As he winds up to run as if he is a cartoon character.
Sweetie: “Mom, stop it. I am not your puppet.” (In response to me having to get one posed picture for an interview that I have done.)
Wise Guy: “Fireworks!” (about fireflies at the park).
Sweetie is becoming more and more sarcastic. She is only age of five; I think I have a long road ahead……
Someone please help. How in the hell do you stop an extremely active two year old from jumping and climbing on you. Time outs are not working. The boy just wants to move. Literally, he climbs to the top of the couch and will pile drive people. He will use me as a climbing pole. He spends as much time standing on his head as he does upright. Seriously, the boy is getting tiring. Any suggestions?

I don’t have any suggestions except that they eventually grow out of wanting to pile drive you and move on to pile driving their sisters or dogs.
And Sweetie’s sarcasm? Love it!!! The girl’s got some sass!

As difficult as these early years can be I can only tell you to hold on and treasure these moments. I have seen these kids in action and they are marvelous and gifted and unique….this is the creative genius that both you and Ben exude trickling down. I promise you that in years to come you will laugh over the very same stories that now make you cringe in frustration.
Continue to make memories, keep wise guy safe, channel his energy, give yourself the space you need to survive the next few years….essentially just keep on keeping on.

If you find a way to get your 2 year-old to stop climbing and jumping, please let me know. My 1.5 year old climbs and jumps off everything, including, but not limited to, guests, shelves, radiators, bunk beds (my fault for putting them in the house, but still…) and I’ve seen her eye the ceiling fans. Normally I wouldn’t give that a second thought, but these days I’m not too sure.

I think I’d let him sit on his head, if he wants to. No problem. If he climbs on you? Stand up. As kid slides to floor, he might just get the hint.
Failing that? Throw him outside–no one comes back in from the heat as active as they were before.

LOL How funny! I love the weird/silly/sarcastic things kids say. I wish I had an answer to the climbing and jumping, my 5 year old still acts like a monkey most of the time.

My little one just turned 2. Girls are different, but I do encourage her to climb and jump. She’s exploring physics.
There’s a toddler and a teenager in my household. I much prefer the antics of the toddler.
