Bruised, battered, and smiling…..

I almost bailed out on my friend this weekend for our backpacking/backcountry camping trip (because I am a pussy when it comes to the heat….. 96 degrees this weekend). I am so glad I didn’t. The trail ate me alive and spit me back out. I hurt my knee (it happens every other time I go hiking.. so I was the slow poke in the group….. sorry friends), realized just how utterly out of shape I am (VERY), and look like someone tried to choke me with piano wire, but got it backwards.

Ouch!

My forearms are bruised, my knee swollen and throbbing, 4 toes and both heals are blistered, and I have a thin line bruise around my neck that I am not sure will ever go away. Yet today, I have been smiling most of the day. With each step, my feet burn, my knee throbs, yet, I feel better than I have in a long time. Last weekend, I had time away with just my husband, which helped me to reconnect to him. This weekend, I had time to reconnect with my self and my friends. I have a freshened perspective.

I need to get some rest, but I will write of our adventures in a upcoming post.

Man, the description of your injuries makes it seem like you were in a car accident,or something. Nick was commenting on how funny I was walking yesterday (get your mind out of the gutter, woman), and seemed surprised my legs were still bothering me 4 days after our hike up the trail. I was like, “dude, you have no idea how much walking we did”. I think we did really well for a group of women. I mean, you know how us ladies are when we get out in the “wilderness” ;) It’s amazing we survived without our make-up, hair dryers, and issues of Cosmopolitan. Despite the fatigue of our trip, I am so ready to go camping again!! It’s like an addiction (and much better than my internet one).
